Emily Kame Kngwarreye came to the worls's attention in 1989 after a painting workshop at the Utopia community. The raw vitality of Emily's painting style was almost immediately recognized as a fresh and exciting development-clearly she was an artist to watch. And over the next eight years her work underwent a breathtaking stylistic evolution.Emily's early paintings manifested a remarkable balancing act, grids of an Emu ancestor hunting for Mulga seeds were suffused under snowy blankets of dots creating a tension between what is revealed and what is hidden. Over the course of about a year her work attained a sophisticated maturity. Her new found artistic confidence was revealed in the use sensual color plates and increasingly sophisticated dotting.
